Approximately 64 percent of the US adult population is now considered overweight
or obese. In 2000, the total cost attributable to obesity amounted to $117 billion, representing
over 6 percent of the national health expenditure. Overweight and obesity is one of the fastest
growing health problems in the U.S. today and has driven many patients to seek non-medically
supervised, controversial, unsuccessful and potentially dangerous forms of treatment.
Unfortunately, physicians often treat symptoms, like hypertension, CVD, high
cholesterol, diabetes, sleep apnea, etc when medical studies show that reduction in weight
significantly improves and often prevents these conditions. Evidence-based practice guidelines have
been developed for many chronic conditions, yet, studies of the quality of care document tremendous
variability in practice for many such conditions. There is a significant "void" when it comes to
translating that research into practical applications for physicians to use at the patient level.
Without incorporating obesity treatment as an integral part of the routine patient care process and
without involving, educating, and monitoring the patient through a system that tracks progress and
monitors compliance, the soaring costs of obesity will continue to rise.
Health Mobius has developed and is marketing its proprietary evidence-based "electronic
continuum of care" (eC2™) for the prevention and management of
chronic illness such as obesity, hypertension, diabetes, high cholesterol and other comorbid conditions.
Our customers are health providers (physicians, hospitals, and clinics), insurance companies, corporate
health programs, disease management companies and manufacturers of pharmaceutical and medical devices
(medical foods, diabetes testing equipment, medical tracking devices).
